Rock Pool

Rock Pool is a heavily textured, colourful abstract painting by Samuel Deacon.

On a canvas measuring 50.5 × 40cm, Samuel layered oil paints to create a 3D surface. Remembering his hatred for the drying times of oil paints, Samuel covered the entire surface with plaster to dry up the oil paint. By sanding and laying down more plaster layers, Samuel has created his most textured painting yet!

The rocky plaster surface called to mind holiday rock pooling with his family, so he decided to apply acrylic paints in blue, turquoise and yellow tones. He has dabbed, brushed, sponged and finally flicked the paint over the surface. Rock Pool is finished with a gloss varnish.

The canvas is fixed within a black-stained oak frame measuring 53.5cm x 43cm x 3.5cm.
