Behemoth

Behemoth is part of the Up-Cycled collection.

Behemoth and Leviathan are two cupboard doors with pouring paints applied into the inset panel in contrasting colours.

The door itself has been filled and glossed white to resemble a frame, and the inner panel is filled with poured paint.

Samuel has used red and gold tones with white in Behemoth, whereas Leviathan uses green and blue tones with black.

The name Behemoth and Leviathan came from the names of beasts mentioned in the book of Job in the Hebrew bible and in the Old Testament.

The contrast in colours between the two artworks led Samuel down the path of Chaos and Calm.

"Both are of Babylonian origin, where they are creatures of the primal Chaos, Behemoth of the Earth and male, Leviathan of the Ocean Deep and female."

The artwork is hung on the wall using brass fixings and wire, which are already attached to the back of each door.
