Yummy Mushroom

Yummy Mushroom is a textured abstract painting and part of the ‘Only Texture’ series.

In this series, Samuel experiments with and highlights the beauty of texture. He creates his signature textured surface on canvas and uses a single colour to enhance, not distract from, the materials he has used. Samuel is using neutral paint shades from brands such as Farrow & Ball and Little Greene.

Yummy Mushroom is made using cracking paste, plaster, heavy gel and pumice paste on a cotton canvas. Once all the materials were applied, layered and dried, Samuel covered every inch and crack with Farrow & Ball’s paint London Stone no.6. Samuel chose this stony shade because he wanted a darker neutral that would enhance the rougher materials like the plaster and the pumice paste. He then finished the painting with Winsor & Newton gloss varnish. This glossy finish is a beautiful final touch, adding a reflective element to the painting. The gloss and the 3D aspects of the painting change throughout the day as light bounces off the surface and shadows are cast. Yummy Mushroom measures 61cm x 51cm x 2cm and is fixed in a black-stained oak frame measuring 64.5cm x 54.5cm x 3.5cm.
