A Fresh Start is a pivotal painting in Samuel’s career. This original abstract artwork is the first painting Samuel created for himself since becoming a full time artist, leaving his work as a designer at the beginning of December.
This painting, completed in January 2021, represents Samuel’s fresh start using a minimal colour palette and a calm composition. Samuel knew he wanted to create a painting with this title, but the direction of the composition came after, finally deciding on the green and grey colour palette that he loves so much.
This imagined scene is reminiscent of a gloomy grey British sky over a hedgerow or tree canopy. Although this scene could invoke feelings of cold and isolation for some, for Samuel an overcast sky and light rain in the countryside where he is from brims with opportunity and excitement.
Samuel has used cracking clay medium, acrylic paints and white spray paint on a 90cm x 90cm stretched deep edge cotton canvas. A Fresh Start sits within a white painted frame measuring 94.5cm x 94.5cm x 5.5cm.
