Ancient Parchment 1 is the first in a pair of brown, cream and gold abstract textured paintings created in January 2026.
Samuel used cracking paste and textured paste on canvas to create the 3d background. He then used acrylic paints which he washed, brushed and flicked on this surface. He finally finished the painting by drawing indecipherable symbols and letters with oil pastels over the top in similar colours.
Samuel named the pair ancient parchment as the colour palette and subtle drawn oil pastel details reminded him of written scrolls.
Ancient Parchment 1 measures 30cm x 40cm and is fixed within a black stained oak frame measuring 33cm × 43cm × 3.5cm.
