Orchid

Orchid is a bold textured painting inspired by the beauty of the flower of the same name.

Samuel has an orchid with beautiful purple and yellow colours in its flower which was blooming at the time this painting was created.

Samuel wanted to include a painting inspired by this in his abstract exhibition at the Brick Lane Gallery in March 23.

Samuel began with a surface of cracking paste and pumice paste. He lovingly painted a close up still life of an Orchid, but deciding this didn’t look right the next morning, abandoned the design and stuck to his favourite type of abstract painting. Chaotic burst of colour using drips, flicks and sponges.

Orchid is fixed within a black stained oak frame measuring 44cm x 55cm x 3.5cm.
